Forging a Path to Democracy: Empowering Civil Society in Eastern Sudan
The lack of trust among Sudanese civil society has historically hindered democratic transition efforts. To address this, SUDIA has utilized "Futures Thinking" approaches, including Future Search workshops in Khartoum, to foster collaboration and build trust. Targeting the eastern states of Red Sea and Kassala, the project aimed to unite civil society towards a shared democratic vision. Two conferences held in October 2022 resulted in a collaborative agenda and the creation of Follow-up Mechanisms to support institutional reform and sustainable development.
Working Together for a Cleaner Coast: World Cleanup Day
On September 17, 2022, World Cleanup Day transformed the Marine Protected Areas of Mohamed Qol and Dungonab, as residents united to tackle waste on their coast. Organized by SUDIA and the local authorities, the event fostered community spirit, with equal participation from men and women. Volunteers collected approximately 100 bags of waste, weighing around 300 kg. The day concluded with a celebration, where local leaders expressed gratitude, and participants received recognition for their efforts. This initiative not only enhanced the environment but also strengthened community ties and raised awareness about sustainability.
