Project/Activity brief and purpose: The purpose of this survey is to make a diagnosis of the labor youth market in North Kordofan, South Kordofan and Blue Nile States with particular attention to migrant youth, including returnees and demobilized soldiers. The survey comes as one of the first in a series of UNDP led interventions and comes as part of a larger programme “Creating Opportunities for Youth Employment in Sudan”, a Joint Programme (JP) being implemented by eleven UN and UN affiliated organizations and their relevant national counterparts. The Programme aims to provide skills development and opportunities for employment to youth (ages 15-30).
Key activities: Collection and review of literature and secondary sources on youth and employment at both state and national levels, qualitative research through gender segregated, guided semi-structured focus group discussions and in-depth interviews with project beneficiaries (graduating trainees, TVET trainers, and government ministry representatives, and private sector representatives). One-day profiling workshops at state level to facilitate the identification of existing economic opportunities as well as promising sub-sectors.
