Project/Activity brief and purpose: In partnership with the Egyptian consultancy firm North South Exchange Consultants, SUDIA will undertake a study on the macro-economic impact of HIV/AIDS in Sudan. The study has been requested by the UNDP as part of its continuing efforts to combat the spread of HIV/AIDS in Sudan. The macro-economic impact study will
Provides evidence of the significance of the impact of HIV/AIDS to the economy; act as an advocacy tool to enhance political and financial support; assist in mainstreaming HIV/AIDS in national development plans, poverty reduction strategies and contribute to building institutional capacity to plan and implement multi-sectoral strategies at both national and sub-national
Identify and collect data from secondary sources related to the country macro economy and the health sector; Developing the research instruments; preparing and implement focus group discussions (FGD) and in-depth interviews (IDI) with identified target groups in various parts of the country to complement the data collected from secondary sources; Contribute to the projections of the macro economy in light of the impact of HIV/AIDS in 3 different scenarios; Developing a country strategy and policy recommendations to combat HIV/AIDS for each of the 3 scenarios identified; Partake in presenting the proposed strategy and policy recommendations to a national workshop comprising all stakeholders to be held towards the end.
