Two SUDIA representatives attended a DDR-related workshop in the Burgh al-Fateh Wednesday the 17th of August. The idea behind this UNDP led initiative was for Implementation Partners (IPs) to share their experience and the lessons learned so far in the field of DDR in the Sudan (and elsewhere). Constructive and concrete recommendations were provided as six groups, each focusing on one area within DDR, presented their success-stories and challenges faced, after fruitful round table discussions. SUDIA were invited to focus on social reintegration of ex-combatants, in which thorough knowledge has been acquired mainly through our work in Blue Nile State. The other topic we were required to participate in debates about was Public Information, which we will begin to indulge in with the implementation of the Community Outreach and Radio Project currently unfolding. Overall the day was very informative and we aim to make use of the points made in the presentations and our colleagues’ diverse fields of expertise in our future work.
