Project/Activity brief and purpose:
This project plans to support the recovery of Darfur and the Three Areas which represent the most war-affected regions of the Sudan. Following a basic approach epitomized by ‘Development for Peace’ the key objective of the project is to “Promote a peaceful coexistence between divergent groups in some of these areas” by undertaking development activities which would address conflict over livestock routes and natural resources, lack of employment and limited income generating activities. Project beneficiaries include farmers and nomads along a number of transhumance routes; women and youth and the wider communities in the target areas.
Key activities:
Running project set-up/start-up operations; Carrying out rapid situational assessments and ensuring conflict sensitivity during project implementation; Developing and launching a communication plan/strategy for the project and securing its implementation; Identify and pilot appropriate mechanisms for effective outreach and behavioral change amongst target communities; Facilitate five (5) large stakeholder meetings/conferences using the Future Search Method with the purpose of finding common ground, building commitment and taking action around key issues of conflict and conflict-transformation efforts in the Three Areas and Darfur; Capacity building support to help build capacity (with a focus on both traditional and formal institutions) in gap areas relevant to conflict-management and conflict resolution.
